Structure of Arabic Language Proficiency Test (ALPT)

All our tests are ADAPTIVE. The level of difficulty moves up with the level of the examinee.
The Arabic Language Proficiency Test (ALPT) is composed of 4 parts. Each part assesses a language skill.
Section 1: Listening

The listening section is composed of 3 parts:
Part A:
In this part, you will listen to a short sentence, followed by a question to test your comprehension of the sentence you heard.
Part B:
You will listen to a short dialogue between 2 people. This is followed by a question to test your comprehension of the dialogue.
Part C:
This part presents a longer piece that is akin to a lecture given by a speaker.

Section 2: Reading Comprehension
You are given one or more passages to read. This is followed by different types of multiple choice questions that aim at testing your comprehension of the material.
Section 3: Structure
This section is composed of 2 parts.
Part A:
This gives you a sentence with a missing word. You are given a number of options to choose from in order to complete the sentence.
Part B:
You are given a sentence and different parts of the sentence are underlined. One of those parts is incorrect. You are asked to identify that part.
Section 4: Writing
You may only take this test, after you have completed previous sections of ALPT. You are given three topics, and you are asked to choose one to write on. Grading is based on the guidelines published by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
