The online experience is wonderful. You can study at your own pace and there are always teachers and support ready to help when you need it. The teachers are very knowledgable and motivated. The material in the courses is well organized, an independent learner can navigate through them with out much dificulty. I'm learning much faster now than I was in a classroom environment. |
I had an extremely positive experience with Arab Academy. I decided to sign up for classroom and speaking lessons at AA because I tried learning on my own through popular language-learning software and found that after putting forth quite an effort, I still had no idea how to formulate sentences, use verbs, or personal pronouns. The classroom instruction through Arab Academy was excellent -- the structure of the animated lessons made it very easy to understand new concepts, letters, nouns, and verbs, and figure out how they come together in sentences. The lessons are well structured and really drive home the concepts. It was a smart decision to have registered for speaking lessons. They were *well* worth it. My teacher, was very patient, encouraging, and effective. Having an excellent teacher for language learning is of utmost importance. I have been to several language schools (for Spanish) and find that it's not enough for the instructor to be a native speaker. The instructor must know how to teach. I had a great teacher who had a great sense of humor. These qualities made it much easier for me to feel comfortable trying to speak Arabic, especially because I didn't grow up hearing the language, and every sound, word, and intonation was new to me. | I am a student in Arabic 201 (Speaking and Writing). I want to thank you for putting together such an excellent course! I have taken Arabic at Harvard University, Boston University, and American University in Cairo, and the Arab Academy is my favorite of all of them. I am learning so much, thanks to the format of the course and the excellent speaking instruction I receive from the teachers every week. Jennifer Jefferis Harvard University 17 March 2008 |
The Arab Academy's online Arabic language classes are much more effective than usual classes at universities because of great materials, interactive great technology, and great teachers. |
The lessons at Arab Academy are enjoyable and really effective, while the teachers are very helpful and supportive. I strongly recommend this course to anyone interested in Arabic studies.

I just wanted to share a great experience I have had with Arab Acadmy. It is a language school online. My schedule is so busy that I could not handle regular Arabic schedules. So, I heard about Arab Academy. I signed up and it was the best decision I could make. I can move according to my time and ability. They have diffferent levels on Amiyyah, Fusha and also the instructor would talk to you via skype on a weekly basis according to schedule you choose. Their students are from all over the world. They are based in Garden City, Cairo. |
| Was so nicely surprised when I started this course. This is what I wanted to study - word by word meaning of Quran. Is give so much more understanding and make your heart to fill with pleasure and satisfaction. I encourage every one, even the Arab speaking people to study Quran in this way. They will discover the true meaning of the Quran! Svetla Galova February, 2008 |
| The Arab Academy in Cairo is simply the best program known to me for SERIOUS students of Arabic in the United States. It provides students comprehensive training in all aspects of the language, including learning how to compose on an Arabic keyboard.. Students should understand that levels in this program are MUCH above supposedly equivalent levels available in the United States. Thus, level 201 assumes prior knowledge of Arabic verb forms, grammar, and expressions that would place it at the high 301 level, or even the low 401 level, in many US universities. The Arab Academy program can be entirely self-paced. Instructors are enormously helpful, but students should be aware that many of them do not speak English (which in many ways is an advantage, especially for advanced students). Training in both modern standard Arabic and colloquial Arabic (primarily the Egyptian dialect, but also in other dialects upon request) are available. For students who are self-starters and not intimidated by initial technological or linguistic challenges, I know of no better program (including that offered by the Arabic staff of the Middlebury Summer School) than this. Dr. Antony T. Sullivan, Associate, Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan 4810821 May 2007 |
I have been studying Arabic for six years. My studies have taken me to 5 universities in the United States and 1 in Syria. While many of these programs were excellent, they all suffered from the same problem--lack of sufficient material so I could practice and retain the concepts being taught. This is the overwhelming strength of the Arab Academy program; a wide variety of materials and activities are available, so I am able to drill vocabulary, idioms and grammar until I am confident in their usage. As a teacher myself, I know "Repetition is the mother of learning." The Arab Academy has even gone a step further, making the activities not only useful, but presenting them in enjoyable interactive games that provide immediate feedback. Another problem I've encountered is the lack of advanced classes, and
when I've found an advanced class, the students in the class have had
wide disparities in skills which made effective instruction difficult. The Arab Academy is simply the best resource for learning Arabic without a class, and an excellent adjunct for students in classes who need extra opportunities for drill and practice. Joanna |
| I would like to say that Arab Academy is providing an incredible service
to those busy people who would like to learn Arabic at their own pace.
I knew about Arab Academy a long tine ago but I was hesitant to enroll
because I was unsure about the service. As it turns out, Arab Academy
is very professional, prompt, courteous and has a great curriculum. Thank
you so much! I have been recommending Arab Academy to all my friend who
are interested in learning Arabic.
Regarding the speaking courses: They are a little intimidating at first. Speaking means finding (and conjugating) words in real time and a new student with limited vocabulary may find it intimidating. Alhamdulillah, my teacher understood this and spoke to me accordingly. I find the classes very useful as they help to recap and retain vocabulary as well as exercising the student's knowledge of sarf and nahw. Nazir Hassan |
| By the end of Arabic 100, I was reading Quran and helping my children with their arabic homework. I not only would recommend it to others but
I also look forward to continuing my studies with the Arab Academy! The material used online seems to be much more detailed for students at any level. I have been in class room courses where others knew more than me therefore the teacher skipped all of the details that I needed for my foundation. I also feel the online studies meet my needs of being able to study during the times that are beneficial for me. I don't skip classes because I have appointments. This is a great benefit. This course has been structured for students who have absolutely no background in arabic or need more repition than other students. The activities have helped me get a much stronger foundation. Some areas I was strong and worked through the lesson quickly. Other lessons were more difficult and was able to repeat them as I felt necessary. Paty Eyanae Ibrahim USA 9 February, 2006 |
| It was the best arabic learning experience I've had yet. I would absolutely
recommend it. It's much better than anything else I've ever done to learn
arabic. Gregory Gatsik USA 9 February, 2006 |
| I think that the Arab Academy is THE best online Arabic instruction one can find. I would definitely recommend it to anybody interested in
studying Arabic. Arab Academy allows me to learn at my pace. When I have
less time to study, I study less, when I have more time to study, I study
more. I could not do that in a real classroom without falling behind. A tutor cannot even compare to Arab Academy. Besides being a better value, Arab Academy allows for a much more organized and focused way of study that will allow a student to acommplish their goal of learning Arabic. Although one doesn't get instant responses to questions like in a real classroom, I always get a response to any questions that I ask. Gary Bolen USA 29 January 2006 |
| I would describe my experience as fun, fascinating, challenging but
in a good way and one of the best things I have ever chosen to do. I would
most DEFINATELY recommend this course to other people. (I already have
actually.) Kirstie Hudson USA 28 January, 2006 |
I thought the Hadith course was a great way to learn Arabic and learn about Islam. I would recommend it to people who want to learn about Islam with a open mind. I haven't taken a course in Islam yet at a mosque so I can't compare. But it does make me want to go on and learn more. I enjoyed the comments back from the composition, explaining some point that may not have been clear. Also, I love the recitations--they move me even more now that I know what the words mean! Jerome Rowley |
| Arab Academy cannot be compared to any other language software on the
market, as it has a human element, which makes all the difference. The
community you are brought into and personal attention you receive from
the dedicated teachers is invaluable and a highly motivational tool for
learning.

| I am a foreign language teacher by profession and am thoroughly satisfied
and inspired by the professionalism and expertise of the Academy. This
is a truly comprehensive and outcome based program that has tangible and
high level results for the learner. My son and I have been in the program for some time now and have learned so much. You really have made our lives so much richer and have helped us in ways that are indescribable. You are helping my child (and me) to be able to communicate with family, understand our deen, be proud of the heritage, become more educated and simply....you enrich our lives through your program in boundless ways. JazakALLAHu khair. As a teacher of Spanish myself, I have not been able to find similar academies in Spanish or French. There are NO academies for those languages that we can find on-line. It is a blessing, wallahe, to have Arab Academy and for offering , truly, a comprehensive and well organized plan of study. Indrani Ibrahim USA Friday, July 01, 2005 |
| I’m taking your Ab Initio courses and finding them valuable in
many ways. The most important thing I’m getting from Ab Initio is
language for daily life. My primary goal in studying Arabic is to acquire
the ability to function in Arab culture at the level of having a social
life, working or going to school, reading the newspaper or a novel, and
writing notes. The dialogues in Ab Initio serve this purpose brilliantly.
Not only are they giving me the vocabulary of daily life, but also they
are providing structures I can adopt as my own, ways to start a sentence
or a conversation or to respond to someone else, especially in dealing
with peers and superiors.
Of course as a language teacher, I recognize the methodology you’ve used in Ab Initio as exemplary “communicative approach,” and I’m heartened by how effective I’m finding it. I have been skeptical about learning by inference even though I know that most students struggle with linguistic abstractions. The exercises in Ab Initio, where I have to practice specific structures repeatedly, really do help me learn the target grammar and syntax. Thanks so much for all the thought and care you and your team put into
developing useful, pedagogically sound lessons at Arab Academy! |
| I find the courses very good...extremely user-friendly, high degree
of interactivity. The quality of the audio files is excellent, the sound
is very crisp. I think that the whole Year1 can easily guide a student
towards a good level of oral and written comprehension. If such good work
is extended to the higher levels, you would be eligible for the Noble
prize in the teaching of Arabic .....if it did exist.... Popagaz Italy Thursday October 17, 2002 |

| You are providing a great service to those who don't have access to
teachers and classes. And in some ways what you are doing is superior:
only an online program can permit the students repeat the drills again
and again, offering correction of errors, until they feel that they have
mastered the material. Imagine going to a teacher in a classroom saying,
will you please check my homeword for the seventh time! Jonathan United States Monday February 25, 2002 |
| I'm an enthusiastic Christian student of Arabic as a foreign language
who has recently discovered that taking the related Courses in the Holy
Quran, Hadith and Sirah is extremely worthwhile. Not only because such
courses contribute a lot in improving the overall level of vocabulary
and understanding as the language is concerned, but also because they
are a unique opportunity for whoever may be interested in viewing things
and the world from an Islamic perspective. These courses teach at the
same time Arabic, the history of Islam, the life of the Prophet Muhammad
and His family, and give a real insight into the Islamic way of thinking.
I particularly enjoy the Hadith courses, maybe because I am fascinated
by their great relevance to modern times. |
| When I first heard about AA a few months back, I choose not to sign
up because I thought it was another junk arabic program. There are loads
of books and computer programs that are useless w/o a teacher. After,
receiving a recommendation from one of your stundents and the Ramadhan
sign up bonus I decided to give it a whirl. MashaAllah, it was better
then I thought, and I'm so excited about the program, after only using
it a few times. It's
very comprehensive. I'm so excited about the program, I put a link on
the front page of my website. InshaAllah many more students will join. Anese United States Sunday December 29, 2001 |
| I am very impressed with the arabic program! I am enjoying my lessons.
Great job - I am really enjoying, and being challenged by the courses! Monica Nelson USA Sunday May 20, 2001 |
| Hello I just wanted to share my experience with those of you who
may be considering to study online. I have been a student at the Arab
Academy since last September and I am quite impressed and pleased with
the courses. The courses are well structured and obviously a lot of
effort has gone into their preparation. Interaction with the teachers
and fellow students on the Academy's boards make the learning experience
even more delightful. I have made a lot of friends who were also studying
online with me. It is amazing how you can save your time and log on
to the site at the end of a long hectic day and really feel that you
are at studying at a brick and mortar school. I would dare say that
the experience is more personalized. I have tried to learn Arabic in
many other ways and this has been the most beneficial way I have found.
I think this is one of the best language centers in the world and I
strongly recommend it to all students who wish to learn Arabic. I have
not come across such an advanced online learning academy even for teaching
other languages. |
| I LOVE Arab Academy. I believe it is an excellent place. I don't have
any ideas for improvements at this time. I have been so impressed and
do feel that I am learning.... Sincerely Karen F. Elsadek USA May 19, 2001 |
| I am enthusiastic about the intermediate course especially because I've been looking for something like the Arab Academy for years. I am recommending it to other students of Arabic and in most mailing lists. I'm learning a lot and in a very effective and enjoyable way. I look forward to taking other courses , especially courses which would focus on a specific part of the language, Media, Law, business. Giancarlo Di Giovanni |
| I am currently taking a course in the Arab Academy language program (www.arabacademy.com), so I thought I would offer my feedback in case anyone is thinking of trying or recommending the program. I spent last summer at Middlebury's full immersion intensive summer Arabic program, and while nothing can compare with speaking only Arabic for 9 weeks, I have to say I am genuinely impressed with the quality of instruction of this online course. I'm taking an intro-level class as a review, but I am far from bored. There is lots of new vocabulary, and I'm being introduced to grammar that we never seemed to get to in other classes (case endings, e.g.). The interactive practice programs actually work--they help drill vocabulary into my head and give clear examples of how it all gets put together. And students can take simultaneous classes in classical, modern standard, and colloquial. The best part, however, is the immediate and thoughtful feedback I get from professors. I was expecting this to be a frustrating and isolating experience, but thanks to the professors it has been anything but. I also find Arab Academy to be much more effective (and much less expensive!) than learning with a tutor. Hope this helps some of you. |
| I am very pleased with the course and have recommended it to other on-line
new converts to islam like myself. My husband(Jordanian) is very proud
that I have learned so many Surahs (memorized) and Haddith's. I am not
taking colloquial Egyptian as I need to concentrate on Jordanian and not
get confused. The only problem I have had was moving back to my country
(Costa Rica) and not having a computer for the first 5 weeks so I fell
way behind. Nevertheless I am catching up and dedicating 5 hours a day
to it too!! If it weren't for this course, I am sure I would not still be at my level after leaving Jordan where I used it daily. May Allah (swt) give you all health and wisdom to continue on with this academy. You are offering a great service to so many of us who have been called to Islam without knowing Arabic(fundamental!!!) Allah makum ma salaama Donna Costa Rica/Jordan Saturday, April 14 |
| I just can't resist, I have to chime in on this subject -- the faces
of the feedback are VERY effective! I think the smiling face is goofy,
and it makes me smile too. The mad, scowling face is quite stern and I
have to say, I feel deflated every time I (unfortunately) cause it to
frown at me. To the Academy: Shukran, again and again. This is a fabulous program, and I am so thankful to be a part of it. Alhamdulillah, everyone involved is so motivated and talented. ma'salaam Safiyah 10/10/2000 (day/month/year) |
| i am eternally grateful for the wonderful opportunity to have finished
the first courses in Arabic language, quran, hadith and surah. I highly
recommend them to anyone who wishes to learn Arabic and have a clearer
understanding of the quran and Islam The structure of the course was very
motivating and each stage was constantly inspiring so I just wanted to
log on learn as much as possible. I feel that this course has brought
a sparkle into my life by reading the beautiful iyas in the quran. many thank you. Annie United Kingdom 7/8/2000 (day/month/year) |
| I am one of those persons who wanted to learn very badly the Arabic
language among many American Muslims. I have gone to Arab sisters homes
on lots of occasions to try and learn. This is what I thought I was suppose
to do. Allah knows after sometime we get discouraged. However, through
your program I have a renewed vigor. As I told you an answer to my prayer and a lot of other people. I wanted to tell you that the way the program is set up, If Allah helps us we can learn a lot. InshaAllah be encouraged it is a great undertaking, but a very necessary thing to do. May Allah help you and give you many Blessing and all the Academy's staff for what you are trying to do. community. I have tried to learn Arabic on my own but have never succeeded.
Until now! |
| This is a wonderful program that introduces Arabic as a beautiful,
well constructed language. I can't tell you how happy I was to finally
see a program that conjugates a verb in all forms and presents all of
the information in such a comprehensive format. I have no doubt you will
be quite busy with your work. There is such a need these days to not only
be bilingual, but multi-lingual. I suppose your e-mail address gives away your location. I don't think I put two and two together! Not to mention, you 'speak' English so well I was hard pressed to tell it was not your native tongue. Take care, Melissa USA 10/6/2000 (day/month/year) |
| I'm writing to let you know how much I'm enjoying learning Arabic through
the Arab Academy's online program. I've never tried online learning before,
but I'm finding it fits my schedule just right. Sometimes I have plenty
of time to dedicate to language learning, but sometimes I have very little.
The distance education program lets me work at my own pace, at home and
when I have time. After years in graduate school (first as a student and
then as a professor), I find it quite refreshing to discover a learning
system that is so individualized and efficient. The time I spend working with the program is very entertaining. I never suspected learning Arabic could be so much fun! The different exercises and games keep my attention and it is rewarding to see myself improving. It is very helpful to have many different types of exercises -- it keeps me from getting bored and tests my learning in many different ways. I have a poor memory, but the variety in the program challenges me to remember new words in so many contexts that I find my vocabulary growing almost despite myself. I'm recommending the program to everyone I know who wants to learn Arabic Thanks so much for providing such a fun and fruitful way to learn the language!
