1. I am not sure what course to register for, what do I do?
If you are unsure of your level of proficiency in Arabic, you have two choices. You can fill out the advising request form on our website, and one of Arab Academy's academic advisors will recommend a course of study for you based upon the information you have provided. You can now also chat with an academic advisor online from our homepage (look for the "Live Help" icon). If you have a background in Arabic, but are unsure of your level, you can take our Arabic Language Proficiency Test (ALPT), which is scored online. The exam results will then determine your course placement. Both options are open to all participants, regardless of language level.
2. What do the courses cover?
Please see our registration page where you can click on a course name to get a detailed course description, explaining the material covered. |
3. How many credit hours is each course?
All of our university-level courses are three credit hours, with the exception of Arabic 100, which is a one credit hour course.
4. How are "credit hours" determined?
Credit hours for our university-level courses are determined depending on the number of contact hours the student has had with the instructor. Contact hours for online courses are based on the average time it takes of online study for a student to complete a course. It takes 15 contact hours to equal 1 credit hour.
5. How much time does an average student (studying independently online) take to finish each course or level?
Students typically finish a course in 3 months. The average amount of time to finish a level is one year. With our online courses, students can pace their learning process, completing courses and moving to the next level at their own speed. Once you complete a course, instructions will be emailed to you on how to register for the next level. You will continue to be able to access your completed courses on an auditing basis.
6. What standards and structure does your program follow?
All of our courses have been developed by professionals in the field of Teaching Arabic. Our university-level courses follow the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) guidelines, and our middle and high school problems have been developed to prepare GCSE/IGCSE & IB students for both their written and oral exams.
7. Do most schools/universities accept the transfer of credit hours from Arab Academy?
Many universities in North America & Europe have accepted the transfer of credit hours from Arab Academy. However, it is necessary for you to verify with your home institution that they will accept the transfer of credit hours. |
8. I have registered for a course, what happens next?
Once you have completed the registration and payment process, your username and password will be emailed to you. Once you receive them you can log in on our site by entering your information into the "log in" field on our homepage. Once you log in, you can access the user's guide, which will explain the navigation and learning tools available on the site, as well as a link titled "How to Use," which will explain in more detail how to progress through the specific course.
