Arabic Language Proficiency Test (ALPT)

Today we have received 30 AFS students at the Arab Academy to take an Arabic Language Proficiency Test. Those students have come to study Arabic during the summer in Egypt. They stayed with host families. They studied Arabic from scratch. Then, on our very last day of their stay in Cairo, they sat for their Arabic Language Proficiency Test. Some of the students plan to continue their studies of Arabic online upon their return to the United States. They will study Arabic online and then transfer their credit hours to their schools. They were very happy to know that they can have Online Arabic Language Speaking classes via the Arab Academy. I feel happy to know that Arab Academy will make it possible to learn Arabic from wherever they are. I wish the students every success.

Some of the students were disappointed they could not answer all the questions. We had to explain that a proficiency test is not an achievement test. A proficiency test has questions to check the language level of students at all lanugage levels. An achievement test is one that covers the material that was covered in the course only. That is different.
The students took the proficiency test upon arrival in Egypt and then again before their departure to the US. The objective is to measure their progress in Arabic. The proficiency test is a good measure of progress in the Arabic language level of a learner.
